Water retention stomach does not occur in the stomach itself

The stomach is basically a sac in which food collects, gets mixed with acid in order to begin digestion. But water retention stomach tends to occur lower down, in the abdomen. This is also known as bloating. Mild bloating is usually due to digestive problems or because of premenstrual syndrome.

Heart failure can also cause water retention stomach. Since the kidneys are not stimulated in order to work properly, people suffering from heart failure tend to have severe water retention all over their body. Severe protein deficiency can be another cause of water retention stomach. Malnutrition leads to not getting enough protein. People who are eating very low calorie diets for a long time and not paying proper attention to getting enough protein may also suffer from water retention stomach.

These conditions can lead to water retention stomach and you must get medical treatment immediately. In case you suffer from liver damage because of alcohol abuse, you need to stop drinking straight away.

In order to avoid water retention stomach, reduce the intake of carbohydrates and fatty foods. Carbohydrates provide fuel for the body, but too many of them can give the stomach a rounded look. You need to cut down on carbohydrates drastically in order to avoid water retention stomach. This means avoiding eating too much rice, pasta, noodles as well as bread.

Besides, fatty foods like fried chicken, cheese as well as burger also lead to water retention stomach, and hence should be avoided. Hence, you can opt for salads and ideally, prepare them at home.
