There are ups and downs in our mood. Sadness refers to a normal reaction to life’s struggles, setbacks, as well as disappointments. But the signs of depression are much more than just sadness.

signs of depressionSome people describe depression as having a feeling of impending doom. However, some depressed people don’t feel sad, rather, they feel lifeless, empty, as well as apathetic.
Whatever the Signs of depression are, depression is different from normal sadness as it engulfs your day-to-day life, interferes with your ability to work, study, eat, sleep, as well as having fun. These feelings of helplessness, hopelessness, and worthlessness are intense as well as unrelenting.

The signs of depression are:

  • you can’t sleep much or you sleep too much
  • you can’t concentrate
  • you find that previously easy tasks are now difficult
  • you feel hopeless as well as helpless
  • you have no control on your negative thoughts
  • you have lost your appetite or you just can’t stop eating
  • you are more irritable as well as short-tempered than usual
  • you begin to think that life is not worth living

The signs of depression vary from person to person, but there are some signs and symptoms which are common to all. Not only this, these symptoms can be part of life’s normal lows. But the more symptoms that you have, and the stronger they are, as well as the longer they last, it gets more likely that you’re dealing with depression. When these symptoms get overwhelming as well as disabling, it’s time to seek help.

The common signs of depression include a feeling of helplessness and hopelessness. This refers to a bleak outlook that nothing will ever get better. Besides, there’s nothing that you can do in order to improve your situation. Loss of interest in daily activities refers to another signs of depression.
