Most people who suffer from an anxiety disorder or depression will not have a good night sleep. Not only this, the sleep deprivation can even make the symptoms of anxiety or depression much worse. In case your insomnia is due to anxiety or depression, you need to treat the underlying psychological issue. Treating the underlying physical and mental issues is good as a first step, but it may not be enough in order to get you a good night sleep. You will also have to look at your daily habits. It may be that some of the things which you’re doing in order to cope with insomnia may actually be making your problem worse.

So, in case you’re using sleeping pills or alcohol in order to get a good night sleep, it will only disrupt your sleep even more over the long-term. Or it maybe that you are drinking excessive amounts of coffee during the day, which will make it harder for you to fall asleep later. Often, changing these habits which are reinforcing sleeplessness are enough in order to overcome the insomnia altogether.
